Aplington-Parkersburg senior Joe Johnson knows his discus throw at the 2023 Drake Relays wasn’t his best. And he’s totally fine with that.
“I had my high hopes for Drake,” Johnson said. “This had a different feeling than other meets. This is something I can look forward to at State in a few weeks. But at this point, I’m keeping a short-term mindset and moving my focus forward.”
Aplington-Parkersburg junior Joe Johnson earned a spot on the third team of the Class 1A all-state teams chosen by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and Iowa Football Coaches Association in teams released on Tuesday morning.
Johnson is A-P's first all-state selection since Grady Brungard, Sam Thorn and Braden Good were selected in 2017.
He was selected at defensive line with a team-leading 13 tackles for loss this season, including seven quarterback sacks. He made 26 1/2 total tackles, including 19 solo stops.
