Two Local Heroes: Parkersburg boy and his dog honored by MercyOne for heroic acts

Walking the dog turned into a chance to be a hero for Hunter McBride and his dog, Lola last June. 

They rose to the occasion when a neighbor was in need, and as a result were honored as one of MercyOne’s 2023 Heroes Among Us at the 18th annual ceremony held March 23 in Cedar Falls.

Hunter, age 15, and Lola were heading back home when Hunter heard a voice in distress. Listening to his gut instincts, he investigated and found Darlene Nicklaus who had fallen in the yard in front of her home.
