The 2020 Iowa high school football regular season will be just seven weeks long, with all teams in all classes making the postseason, two of several changes announced by the Iowa High School Athletic Association on Friday, July 24.
The start dates for football remain unchanged – first practice is Monday, Aug. 10, and the first week of games is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28 for most schools.
For teams in Classes 3A, 21, 1A, and A; the Week 1 and Week 2 dates are optional. The district schedule for those classes would begin in Week 3, with most schools playing Friday, Sept. 12. The regular season would end in Week 7.
From there, a six-round postseason will commence on Oct. 16, with all schools in all classes qualifying. That schedule will conclude with no change to the planned dates for the state semifinals (Nov. 13-15) and the championship games (Nov. 20-21).
