An eventful summer has come to an end for Aplington-Parkersburg baseball.
Hudson eliminated the Falcons, 7-2, in a district quarterfinal at South Hardin High School in Eldora on Saturday, July 11.
From a spring season lost to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, to an exposure to COVID-positive persons that put the Falcons on the sideline on what was supposed to be their first game of the season, A-P's 2020 campaign ended not by a recommendation from a public health department, but by a team that was simply better on the baseball field.
That doesn't remove the sting from Saturday's loss. But the Falcons showed what it meant to them to be on the field when lightning and a brief downpour halted Saturday's game in the fourth inning. Hudson led 3-0 at the time.
"The guys wanted to stay in the dugout," A-P head coach Brett Kleespies said. "We made sure we were all together there and right before we went back out, we said, you know, it's a new game, a new mentality. We've got to go out and get things started."
