APLINGTON - Nearly 250 motorcyclists stopped at Stinky’s Bar and Grill in Aplington on Saturday. The group was part of the Tim Petersen Memorial Ride, and annual event to commemorate the life of Timothy Lee Petersen, a Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputy who was tragically killed in an accident in August of 2015. Petersen was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and was on his Harley Davidson at the time of his death.
Each year, a collection of motorcyclists run a path through several towns in Iowa in memory of Petersen, and to raise money for Petersen’s young son, as well as a memorial pavilion at the Hoing-Rice Softball Complex in Waterloo.
A local craftsman, Zach Danielsen, even constructed a wooden bench to be placed at the site, with a beautifully polished finish showcasing a black and blue stripe on the natural wood as well as being decorated with Petersen’s name and badge number.
The Memorial Ride left from Hoing-Rice Softball Complex, then made its way to Reinbeck, before heading to Eldora. Aplington was the third stop along the trip, which involved a meal and refreshments at Stinky’s. The group was allotted their own special section in the back lot and alleyway behind the restaurant. Then the convoy of bikers hopped back on their steeds and headed to Shell Rock before their final stop in Cedar Falls at Mary Lou’s Bar and Grill for dinner and a live band.
