Gunshots were fired, but no one was injured during an incident in Parkersburg on May 26. Timothy Ovel, 53, Waterloo, was arrested by the Parkersburg Police Department and charged with Reckless Use of a Firearm, Carrying Weapons, Domestic Assault Abuse while displaying a dangerous weapon, Child Endangerment, Going Armed with Intent, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon.
According to the criminal complaint, a Parkersburg Officer was contacted by Butler County Dispatch on May 26 at 12:40 p.m. Dispatch informed him of a gunman actively shooting in the front yard of a home on Third Ave., Parkersburg.
“An officer immediately responded, and was able to intercept the suspect while he was walking away,” said police chief David Jara in a press release.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Parkersburg Officer stopped his fully marked patrol car with emergency lights and deployed his patrol rifle. Ovel, who was armed with a pistol, immediately unloaded his firearm and threw it away. The officer approached Ovel and placed him in handcuffs. While waiting for backup to arrive, the officer checked through an open window to see if anyone was injured; everyone seemed OK. Backup arrived, and Ovel was placed in an Aplington squad car.
